Embedding Research Guides into Canvas

Embedding libguides into CanvasIn a Canvas editing box, click on the "V" and select "Cypress College Library Content". If that option is not visible, you may need to search for it first.

 

How to embedd libguides into CanvasA pop-up box will appear. Please select the following options:

  • LibGuides Site: Research Guides - cupresscollege.libguides.com

  • Content Type: Full Libguide

  • Guide: This will vary. Please select the guide(s) appropriate for your course. See the Custom Research Guides page for more information. 

  • Guide Page: Leave this blank, unless you coordinated something with a librarian. 

  • Click on Embed Content.

Embedding Library Tutorials into Canvas

Embedding Library content in CanvasIn a Canvas editing box, click on the "V" and select "Cypress College Library Content". If that option is not visible, you may need to search for it first.

 

Adding Library Tutorials to Canvas InstructionsA pop-up box will appear. Please select the following options:

  • LibGuides Site: Research Guides - cupresscollege.libguides.com

  • Content Type: Content Box

  • Guide: Tutorials for Canvas by Annette Young. 

  • Guide Page: Tutorials for Canvas.

  • Box: Select the title of the tutorial you would like to add.

  • Display box without header and border: This can be selected or not, based on your preference. 

  • Click on Embed Content. 

Library Tutorial in Canvas PageThe research guide will appear within your course page. 

It is encouraged to add text above each tutorial to provide students with an overview and instructions of how you would like your students to interact with the content. 

 

Embedding Articles & Database Resources Into Canvas using Permalinks

You can link to materials in Library databases a few ways. For most materials, you will be looking for the permanent link, also known as the permalink:

Permalink in Ebsco DatabasesIn Ebsco Databases, click on the "Permalink" option in the toolbar of your selected article.

The permalink will display near the top of the page. 

Gale Database Permalink IconIn Gale Databases, Look for the "Get Link" icon in the upper right corner on the page with your selected article. 

The permanent link will be displayed in a pop-up box. 

OneSearch Permalink In OneSearch, click on the book or item you are interested in. Click on "Permalink" and the permanent link will appear.

Proquest Permalink In ProQuest Databases, look for the "All Options" icon on the upper right corner on the page with your selected article. 

The permanent link will be displayed at the top of the pop-up box. 

Embedding Library Database Streaming Videos into Canvas

Films on Demand LTI in CanvasIn your Canvas editor, click on the "V" icon and select Films On Demand.

When you find the video you would like to embed, click on "Embed" for several size options. Select the size you would like for it to appear.

Click save on your Canvas editor. 

A pop-up box will appear for you to conduct a search within Films on Demand. Search for your video.

Embedding Library Research Videos using Canvas Studio

Embedding Videos in Canvas using Canvas Studio Videos can be added to pages or discussions. 

1. Request access to the video by emailing Annette Young ayoung@cypresscollege.edu with the titles/topics of videos you would like access to. Once access is given, the videos will be available to embed.

2. Use the "V" LTI function in a Canvas page or discussion and select Canvas Studio. 

3. Select the video you would like to embed and click "Embed".  You will have options for comments and download capabilities, per your preference. 

4. Once you save and publish your content, it will be available for students. 

Embedding Library Research Videos using YouTube links

How to embed a video from YouTube into Canvas

 Videos can be added to pages or discussions. 

1. Visit the Library's YouTube page and select the video you would like to embed into your Canvas course. 

2. Click on "Share" and select "Embed Video". 

3. Copy the embed code and paste it into the HTML editor in either a Canvas discussion or page. 

4. Click save and/or click publish to make it visible to your students.
