There are two types of Chicago citation systems:
1. Notes-Bibliography (NB)—arts, humanities, some social sciences
Uses superscript numbers in-text, numbered footnotes or endnotes and a bibliography, no automatic hyphenation
(Notes) N: first line indent, single space
(Bibliography) B: hanging indent, single space, double in between items
Uses parenthetical in-text citations and a references list, no automatic hyphenation
(Parenthetical) P: in parentheses
(References) R: hanging indent, single space, double in between items
NB Basic Bibliography Citation
Author’s Last Name, Author’s First Name. Title of Book: Subtitle of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher’s Name, Date of Publication.
Note: Make sure that the citation has a hanging indent and is single spaced, but with a double space in between entries on the bibliography.
NB Basic Footnote or Endnote
15. Author’s First and Last Names, Title of Book: Subtitle of Book (Place of publication: Publishers’ Name, Date of Publication), p#.
