Universal Human Rights Month

As defined by the United Nations, human rights are“rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status.” During December, we are encouraged to remember and celebrate those who have fought for human rights in the past and to also think about the ways in which we can continue to fight for them today.

Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on December 10th. It commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, it set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
